The Care Group Unit was started in June 2012 for severely intellectually disabled adults who cannot benefit from the regular VTC programme. These adults are separated into their own group so that activities and goals can be matched to their specific capacity.
When a separate class of the same level of students is formed, the teacher is able to concentrate better, set relevant goals, and produce meaningful results — even for those with the most significant disabilities.
Taking care of such adults for six hours each day also provides great relief to their aging parents, who know their loved one is in a safe, nurturing environment.
Adults are grouped by functional level, not age. This ensures every activity is relevant and achievable for each member of the group.
A structured 6-hour routine each day — giving adults a sense of purpose, stability and social engagement.
With their loved one cared for during the day, aging parents get essential time to rest and attend to their own needs.
Care Group members have access to physiotherapy, music therapy and clinical psychology as part of Navjeevan's integrated care approach.
