When a child first comes to Navjeevan, the Clinical Psychologist and special educators assess him. His IQ is determined through clinical tests and he is assessed using various checklists. His case history is taken and if he is diagnosed to be intellectually disabled, he is admitted in the Early Intervention Centre, School, or Vocational Training Centre (VTC) depending on his age.
The teachers evaluate the child's level on the basis of different checklists and prepare his Individual Educational Plan (IEP) in consultation with the parents. The IEP is prepared on the basis of priorities — which skills need to be developed first or which problem needs to be tackled first. Goals are set and the child is evaluated periodically.
Medical Intervention, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are also provided where needed. After the Vocational Training, adults are shifted to the Sheltered Workshop.
